Our Stories

"I'm off the streets and in a house. I have two cats. I crochet. I love to cook. I've never been happier in my entire life."
— Donna Summer
Pathways Vermont opened its doors in Burlington in January 2010 with a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). With the support of local government, businesses and individuals, Pathways Vermont is bringing the Pathways Housing First model to a rural setting for the first time. Since January, Pathways has placed dozens of chronically homeless men and women into permanent housing with the support of our multidisciplinary Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.

With the opening of a second office in Montpelier in July 2010, Pathways Vermont is building capacity to serve more Vermont residents who are currently experiencing homelessness and have psychiatric disabilities. Providing services in Vermont can be challenging since public transit options are limited and harsh winters make face-to-face contact difficult. Pathways VT is meeting that challenge by using video conferencing and other technology to communicate with Pathways' tenants in different areas of the state. With the support of the local communities, we believe we can meet the unique needs of our tenants and end chronic homelessness in Vermont.

Vermont Features

Pathways VT is seeking local sponsors for programs that enrich our tenants' lives. Whether offering pro bono veterinary services, computer training, or donations of cookware and food for cooking classes, local businesses and individuals are stepping up to support our efforts to give Pathways tenants more opportunities for recovery and community integration.
