Housing First--Calgary is just the 2nd Canadian city to adopt this successful model

Bravo to Calgary's Committee to End Homelessness for making Calgary the second city in Canada to implement a housing-first model used extensively in the U.S. with great success. Pathways to Housing Calgary, the pilot announced Friday, will find permanent housing for 50 homeless people who have been on the streets for more than a year.

Participants will be chosen from those homeless people who are the highest users of our health care system. Pathways is working with the Calgary Health Region to identify those people, so that they may be flagged and intercepted the next time they come to the emergency ward for treatment. Instead of being discharged back onto the streets, they will be offered the chance to have permanent housing.
